Dear Jeongan, To Yeonju (2022)

My relationship with Yeonju was a bit different because we didn't eat meals together every day, but we had to meet once in a while and share some things. I don't know how it was for her, but for me, I could tell some things only to her. But the corona pandemic came to us too, and we had to find a new approach to talk. Whoever suggested it first, we started writing letters to each other, not just one-time letters, but more of a record of how we were feeling.
Our places were a bit far apart, but still within reach of a solo walk during the pandemic, and we'd deliver our letters to each other's mailbox on a regular basis. Over time, we gathered a hefty stack of stories, and when we were able to go back to school, we were able to use them as material.
In an exhibition space surrounded by the original letters, we displayed the attachments that were sent with the envelopes, a video work of the journey to deliver the letters to each other’s mailbox, and the quadrat bench surface in the public square of the university, where we used to meet together. The bench was a work of a sculpture student in the same university, Dongho Cho, and in the space where the bench was missing, we put up a poster reminding us of where the bench had gone.
